Best South African Depression Rehab

Best South African Depression Rehab

When looking for the Best South African Depression Rehab you need to first understand what kind of care you’re looking for. Is it nurses and doctors in a clinic, or is it, a drug rehab centre with addiction treatment that you need, or is it mindfulness and relaxation in a homely environment with a team of professionals that you need. All of these are remarkably different. Mental illness comprises two categories—those with any mental illness (AMI) and those with serious mental illness (SMI), though these are not mutually exclusive. Some people tend to suffer in silence, harshly and for long periods, because they just don’t want a psyhc-ward styled environment, while others prefer the confines of a structured hospital-styled setting. Not all products and services are suited to everyone so it is up to you to do your research of what you need, why you need it and how you will go about getting it.

Visiting a depression treatment center is a completely voluntary process that requires deep commitment from both the patient as well as the treatment center.” A depression rehab of the finest calibre making guarantees on results has several people in the team with degrees from Universities that they spent 5-10 years studying for. Not just folks who did treatment themselves, or studied an online course or went to rehab once. An in-depth, neurological understanding of what constitutes depression through to mood disorders is not something you can look up on the internet and their is no substitute for insight and understanding that is based in the human sciences.

True healing and transformation oftentimes require an all all encompassing and complete 180 degree turn around in how we think, feel and act. Memory, personality, mood as well as understanding hormones, epigenetics and other neurological factors at the highest level must be present in any program you follow that is going to get you out of, let’s say 20 years of suffering anxious and depressive cycles. History of psychiatric hospitals

Until the 1970s in Los Angeles America for example, the mentally ill were usually treated in public psychiatric hospitals, more commonly known as insane asylums.

Then, a social movement aimed at freeing patients from big, overcrowded and often squalid state hospitals succeeded. Rather than leading to quality treatment in small, community settings, however, it often resulted in no treatment at all.

As a consequence, thousands of mentally ill ended up on the streets, where they became involved in criminal activity. Their crimes, though frequently minor, led them in droves to jails. In South Africa, mental hospitals or depression rehabilitation centres in south africa were called asylums. Several such hospitals were built towards the end of the 19th century, some on the plans of overseas buildings and others in disused army encampments, Fort England Hospital in Grahamstown being the first in 1876, Fort Beaufort in the Eastern Cape in 1897, Kowie Hospital in Port Alfred, also in disused barracks (1889), Valkenberg Hospital in Cape Town (1891), Weskoppies Hospital in Pretoria (1892), Oranje Hospital in Bloemfontein (1883) and Townhill Hospital in Pietermaritzburg in 1882. Later additions were Komani Hospital in Queenstown in 1922 followed by Stikland Hospital in Bellville (1963) and Lentegeur mental health rehabilitation centre on the Cape Flats in 1974. Witrand Institute catered for the mentally retarded in Potchefstroom, and the Alexandra Care and Rehabilitation Centre was established in Cape Town in 1922. So Weskoppies Hospital began life in 1892 under the South African Republic and to our knowledge is the oldest psychiatric hospital we know of.

Today, since the DSM V was released we have a much better understanding of mental wellness around the world. We now have more, far smaller, less clinical institutions popping up all over the world. A far cry from what the original asylums were. Along with this the stigmas has changed a whole lot too. It is more courageous of a persons character to get help today than to try and avoid it, although a lot of work still needs to be done on stigma reduction, education at the workplace, universities and schools etc.

You can download a History of mental health services in South Africa by the National Library of medicine here . It is also important to remember that a registered drug rehab centre in South Africa is not in any way shape or form a depression clinic or mental health rehabilitation centre. It is illegal for them to con people into their registered rehabs and try and treat depression, which is a money making trend more and more drug rehabs attempt. So always ask a ton of questions before you book. One of the Best South African Depression Rehab centres is not going to put you with twenty people in for drug addiction doing the 12 steps of AA. Psychotherapy from a psychologist for example is not the same as counselling with and addictions counsellor who once attended a rehab and then went on to be a counsellor from there. Mental health, personality and mood disorders and the like need to be treated by people trained in the human sciences for at least 7 – 10 years. Then add a decade of experience and you have a good statistical chance that your attendance at the Best South African Depression Rehab centres is going to pay off.
