10 Evidence-Based Ways to Treat OCD

Why EMDR VR and Meditation heal you

Why EMDR, VR and Meditation heal you is a question I often get asked. Many people are not convinced that anything beyond medicine or at the very least psychotherapy can heal you. I find the reason why EMDR, VR and Meditation heal you is because they take you beyond the analytical mind and out of the subconscious.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), VR (Virtual Reality), and meditation are three distinct therapeutic approaches that can be used to promote healing and well-being. While they have different mechanisms, they can all contribute to reducing stress, improving emotional regulation, and enhancing overall mental health.

EMDR is a psychotherapy technique that involves bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or tapping, to help individuals process distressing memories and emotions. It is particularly effective for treating trauma-related conditions like PTSD.

VR, on the other hand, can be used to create immersive experiences that can be therapeutic in various ways. For example, VR can be used to expose individuals to feared situations in a controlled environment, allowing them to gradually overcome their anxieties. It can also be used to provide calming and relaxing experiences that can reduce stress and promote mindfulness.

CQ Healing Meditation, a deep practice of cultivating mindfulness and mental clarity, has been shown to have numerous benefits for mental and physical health. It can help reduce stress, improve focus, and promote emotional regulation.

When used in conjunction with each other, these three approaches can create a powerful synergy for healing and well-being. For example, EMDR can be enhanced by VR technology, which can create realistic scenarios for processing traumatic memories. Meditation can be integrated into VR experiences to deepen the sense of relaxation and mindfulness.

A sense beyond the 5 senses

In the Paradigm Process of Healing model we use at our Center, we ask you to think of the unseen world beyond the 5 senses in this way when trying to understand Why EMDR VR and Meditation heal you. One of the simplest reasons is that when we meditate, we can quiet the mind and become more aware of the present moment, which allows us to create new neural pathways and break free from old, unhealthy patterns.

The table, sturdy beneath your hand, is a whisper of energy, slowed to a crawl. Its solidity, a deception. Each atom, a tiny dance of energy, vibrating at a pace too subtle for our coarse senses to perceive. The rock, impervious, a frozen river of energy, its current stilled, its flow disguised.

Even we, with our beating hearts and the flicker of thought, are a symphony of energy, a vibrant tapestry woven from the universe’s own essence. Our bodies, these vessels, temporary homes for this fleeting dance, are merely denser expressions of the same energy that animates the stars.

The illusion of separation, the illusion of solidity, a trick of the senses, a limited perception. For beneath the surface, a ceaseless flow, an interconnectedness that binds us to every leaf, every star, every grain of sand. We are not isolated beings, but threads within the vast fabric of existence, each a unique expression of the universe’s boundless energy.

  1. Here is a simple 11 minute exercise we call MindYoga at the Center for Healing to help get you unstuck and change your energy, vibration, thoughts, feelings and in the end your actions. Listen on Soundcloud
  2. Here is a EMDR session, there are other versions in the description with shorter or faster movements. Unlocking Healing with Contemplation and EMDR: A Journey of Self-Regulation. This short Contemplation exercise, utilizing lateral eye movements, draws inspiration from the Adaptive Information Processing Model, the foundation of EMDR therapy. Initially developed for PTSD, EMDR has expanded to address various therapeutic needs, proving highly effective for self-regulation.

This exercise primarily focuses on three key areas:

  1. Adapting Cognitive Behaviors: By incorporating self-regulation techniques, we can rewire our thought patterns and responses.
  2. Harnessing Optic Movement: Utilizing light and visual cues, we stimulate lateral eye movements, which research suggests are more potent than vertical movements and even diaphragmatic breathing in promoting healing.
  3. Cultivating Deep Relaxation: The exercise culminates in a state of profound rest, a crucial phase for mental and emotional transformation. It is during these periods of deep relaxation, following intense focus, that our minds undergo profound shifts, releasing negative blocks and paving the way for personal growth.

CQ Healing Meditation Practice

Last we will look at CQ Meditation Practice. Discover the healing power of Contemplative Intelligence Meditations or CQM’s as we call them for short. We have learned a lot over the last decades about the science of getting well. The more we learned and observed about healing the clearer the model became to us. We started to understand the similarities of depression to addiction and generalised anxiety to personality disorders and codependence. Monitoring the data from people all over the world with a multitude of different backgrounds and physical, mental and emotional issues we started to see that they healed in the same ways.

one of the most incredible tools we use at the Centre for healing and write life transformation in South Africa are CQ healing meditations which we do as seated lying down or walking meditations. Seldom do people believe that listening to a 45 minute long healing meditation will help them get beyond the analytical mind and out of their paint bodies fast but they work like no one’s business. They are the perfect compliment to a deep healing therapeutic process. These meditations help people change their lives and when we walk down the beach, and return an hour or so later, a new person oftentimes emerges; it is beyond words to describe.

Why EMDR VR and Meditation heal you

We found distinct correlations in how they overcame their presenting issues. Essentially we started the system of healing and change by asking them to stop. Stop doing what was no longer working for them. The obvious retort was how and we provided that answer to how on an unprecedented scale. People began to slow their brainwaves and move beyond their analytical minds, sometimes a few seconds at a time, then a few minutes. Then hours.

So we now know it is a process of meditative healing that must be practiced over time. The beta brainwaves had to change in shape before the person could do any changing or even hold onto any visual idea or concept of change at all.

EMDR, VR, and meditation are therapeutic approaches that promote healing by moving beyond analytical thinking into deeper awareness. EMDR helps process memories, while VR offers immersive therapeutic experiences. Meditation fosters mindfulness and emotional regulation. Together, they create synergies that enhance mental health, reduce stress, and facilitate personal growth through self-regulation.

We hope you enjoyed Why EMDR VR and Meditation heal you and follow the work closely to heal depression, anxiety, disorders and physical, mental and emotional pain of all variants.
