Our family therapy recovery commitment

Our Family Covenant: A Detailed Commitment to Growth and Love

Recognizing that true connection is forged through honesty, mutual respect, and a willingness to grow, we establish this covenant as our family’s guide. It is our shared promise to navigate life’s complexities with courage and love, both as individuals on our own paths and as a family united in spirit. We developed it at what has fast become one of the best rehab centres in south africa for depression, anxiety, process addictions and personality disorders as well as treatment resistant depressions and other ailments that people prefer to treat holistically and powerfully. Families always work together with the clients at our Centre and the successful results we give to our clients are in part so high due to family interventions and interactions with our therapy team. It is so often overlooked, but family as a whole, are incredibly powerful when they work together as opposed to in opposition to each other.

1. We Commit to Love, Compassion, & Presence We build our family on a foundation of love, beginning with compassion for ourselves. We understand that we can only give the love we have cultivated within; we cannot pour from an empty cup. We choose to live fully in the present moment, treating past events as lessons, not failures, and releasing the need to predict or guarantee the future. We acknowledge that we are all in recovery from fear; today, and every day, we let love reign supreme. We will learn to feel our own feelings and allow others to feel theirs, recognizing this is the path toward healing and resolution.

2. We Commit to Radical Honesty & Authenticity We will live with unwavering authenticity, ensuring our actions align with our words. We abandon pretence and commit to being open and vulnerable, even when it’s difficult. We will learn to say it like it is, trusting that it is the truth that sets us free from confusion, denial, and resentment. We will not hide, minimize, or misrepresent our experiences. We will show up as we are and honor the truth of what we see, in ourselves and in each other.

3. We Commit to Absolute Ownership & Accountability We take absolute ownership of our individual lives—our choices, our feelings, and our responses. We understand that a victim mentality is a trap that prevents growth, and we actively reject it. We will no longer engage in the game of blame, punishment, shame, or shifting responsibility. Your crisis is not my crisis, and my mistakes are not your fault. Each of us is responsible for our own journey and for bearing the consequences of our choices. We will learn from our mistakes and foolishness, and we will not foolishly repeat them. We commit to show up, own up, and grow up for ourselves.

4. We Commit to Unwavering & Healthy Boundaries We will establish, honour, and protect healthy boundaries as the ultimate expression of love and respect. We recognize that each person’s journey is their own infinity, and we will not interfere in a way that causes suffering or dependence. We will support each other without enabling. This means we will no longer do for others what they can and must do for themselves, because we understand this disables rather than helps. We will be part of the solution, not the problem, by putting a firm boundary between what is our responsibility and what is not.

5. We Commit to Embracing the Process of Growth & Letting Go Our family therapy recovery commitment has taught us to embrace life as a process to be experienced, not a problem to be controlled. We will learn to have fun, to persevere through struggle, and to find strength in our journey from one phase of life to the next. We understand that both successes and failures are gracious gifts for learning. We will learn to courageously connect with life on its terms, moving from a place of love and abundance, not fear and scarcity. With full hearts, we commit to the profound and necessary acts of loving fully and, when required, letting go.
