I want you to know that things have changed. The need for psychiatric clinics or depression treatment centres is something many people need at one time or another yet the major majority of people will avoid the help due to the stigma, not being willing to work in a clinical setting, because they don’t trust the psychiatric system and a number of other reasons that keep people from getting the help they need to get through their existential crisis.
Others who could visit a good psychologist, counsellor or therapist could start to change their lives in a matter of weeks stay stuck in progressive addictions, depression or anxiety for similar reasons to the above. Most people we treat remark that they have had issues for multiple years. They only come to our spiritual healing and wellness centre when it’s got so bad that they just can’t continue. This is the norm and suggests that things need to change – FAST!
Suicide through to unmanageable emotions and compulsions are highly treatable. People do not know this. They commit suicide. They stay stuck for 2o years in a psychological hell. They don’t know or understand how rapid, accessible and incredible treatment is today. It doesn’t matter if you choose to go to a luxury rehab centre, private mental health clinic, a psychiatric clinic or to a tea leaf reader. Just get going and decide to get well. Then take massive action!

One seeker writes, about her depression treatment centre experience that, “Before my wellness experience in a centre, I felt as if I was absolutely worthless and I had no hope for a successful future. I had this image of myself as a whore and a no-good fool, who just couldn’t achieve anything worthwhile. I figured that if everyone else saw me this way, then this is what I was. My self-image consisted of fear, hate, and constant pain and agony. In a short time I learned that my thinking was very powerful and that by using affirmations and changing my thoughts, I knew I could start to heal. I just HAD to practise affirmations each day and was amazed at the change”:
- I am loved for being exactly the way I am.
- I face everything and rise.
- I have a bright future.
- I set boundaries with ease.
- I accept the things I cannot change.
- I am worthy
- Every day I appreciate my life more than ever.
- I let go of grudges and focus on the here and now.
It is also true that when depression has been a part of our lives, not only does growth stop, distortion occurs. This distortion bears directly on our self-image. The use of drugs and negative attitudes for example pollute our bodies and minds and impairs our judgment. Therefore, our ability to be reasonable and rational is damaged, and our individual development is slowed and distorted. Quite simply, we can’t tell it like it is because we can’t see it like it is!
Now after a stint in a Depression treatment centre I accept that I need to allow myself space and time to heal, learn, grow and connect with life and God deeply as never before. This is the very meaning of life and this meaning has changed my life forever, for the better. Some of the best clarification of who we truly are takes place during our time in treatment. Then aftercare and Emotions Anon meetings are critical follow-ups to maintain and further develop this knowledge of ourselves. Why is it so important for us to get a clear, realistic view of ourselves? Because reality cannot accommodate dishonesty. If we do not learn how to live truthful lives, we will die. I was never honest in my past. There was no room for it. Honesty would have messed up all the lies I had already told.
Healthy New Choices
Healing journeys learned at a good Depression treatment centre and free living offers choice. In order to achieve self-satisfaction and fulfilment, to enjoy being straight, authentic and true, you need to make new healthy choices. Be true to yourself. Don’t forget there will be pressure to return to your old, former ways. This is why it is necessary to build a strong, emotional support system to replace the need to return to old isolated and depressive behaviour. How you feel about who you are is enormously influenced by your friends. The painful transition of changing friends if you have to is best eased by activity and you can also create your own good times with like minded, self actualizing people by going to a dance, bowling, going to movies, playing racquetball, biking, hiking, going on a picnic, horseback riding, sailing, swimming, etc. Join yoga classes. Hike. Join a gym. Don’t get stuck in old habits of isolation. The old adage still holds true, “Keep off the tracks if you don’t want to get hit by the train.”

Living with Yourself
However contrary this may sound, time spent alone is important. It is healing, magical and the walks on the beach to the breath work, yoga, art and psychological help is amazing. This is quite different from isolation however, in that it is often planned and only for a short time. Try to reserve about thirty minutes a day to be alone. This is a selected, special period of time to be with the most special person you know – you! Maybe it will be reflective – climbing inside yourself to reach feelings, to meditate, to pray. Or perhaps it will be expressive of those feelings – some journal or diary work, some form of structured relaxation such as a hobby, meditation, music, or arts and crafts.
Treatment centres often provide basic relaxation therapy, such as the use of ‘calm scenes’, tapes, tighten/release muscle exercises. In recalling some of these, you may want to expand on them. In doing these things, I have found that considerable spiritual growth takes place. This is the basis for all our growth. I know that I am a good person, I have potential. I try not to hurt people. Overall, I feel grateful because I can see myself becoming the person that I want to be.
